The Scottish League

Scottish League is the premier football league in Scotland. It includes all the teams from different regions of Scotland playing in a league. It is the top flight league which is the best in Scotland. The Scottish Premier League comes under the UEFA confederation and is eligible to play in the premier European tournaments.

Overview of SPL

The League is locally known as the ‘Clydesdale Bank Premier league’. The ranking of the SPL in the UEFA rankings is tenth. The Scotland football fans watch their League compared to all other regional leagues. The SPL has 17 teams who compete for the League tile by playing each other in a Home and away fixture. Scottish Premier League initially started out in the year 1998. Surprisingly, only two Scottish clubs have won the Title in its history. The two teams are Celtic and Rangers. Celtic has won six premier titles and ranger have claimed four. The last teams which finish at the bottom of the SPL is relegated to the Scottish first division.

Formation

During the 1998 season, some clubs parted ways from the Scotland football league to form their own Premier League. The money which was generated through the League as shared by all the clubs and used for funding for new players. The format has 33 games that includes both home and away ties for every team. The team that scores the maximum points at the end of the season will win the League.

Sponsorship

The Scottish national bank is the official sponsor of the Scottish League. The Scottish has remained the SPL sponsor since the beginning of the 1999 season. The bank did not renew its contract for the present season and so the Clydesdale bank has become the official partners and sponsors of the SPL. The bank has agreed for an * million deal for four years.
